Happy Mother’s Day to all you Mother’s out there. The first card I made was for my own Mom.
I was searching Pinterest for a different and unique idea to make my Mom for Mother’s Day. After spending longer than I needed to on Pinterest, I came across a card, that I wanted to try or do something similar.
The card above was created by Joanne James, who is a Stampin’ Up Demonstrator in the UK. To find out more about Joanne and her projects visit her blog, The Crafty Owl.
To make my Mom’s card, I cut the front of my white base in half so I had a flap. I cut out a circle using the Couzzle cutting system. I made sure that if it was attached to the front flap, it would not hang off over the edge of the card. To make the flowers I used the Secret Garden stamp set and matching framelits. I arranged them on the white circle, making sure they fit without hanging off the edge. After I attached them, I punched out smaller flowers using solid card stock. Then I stamped Mom in the center to finish the card. Thanks to Joanne for the different card layout idea.
Stamps: Secret Garden and Family Reunion (Stampin’ Up)
Inks: Pretty in Pink, Coastal Cabana, Pink Passion and Bermuda Bay (Stampin’ Up)
Other: teal, pink card stock and printed paper, flower punch (Stampin Up)
To get the watercolor technique to look like watercolor it took me a few tries to get it to look like it should. To make this card, I sprayed water all over the watercolor paper. Then I used my juiciest ink pads; I quickly stamped the stamps on the ink pads and then on the wet watercolor paper. I kept doing this with different colors and stamps. When I noticed the paper was getting dry, I would spray it with more water. Some of the stamped flowers look like they are supposed to with the colors blending and bleeding. I had to let the watercolor paper dry overnight. When it was dry, I attached it to a card and added a scalloped punched strip of teal paper and and gold piece of ribbon. I then stamped the sentiment on a scalloped oval and added a butterfly.
The next card is identical in layout to the card above, I just used different colors and a slightly different watercolor technique.
This card is for my cousin, Peter’s wife, Hilarie. Hilarie and Peter will both be celebrating their very first Mother’s and Father’s Day this year!!
Anyways back to the post….
First, I sprayed the watercolor paper lightly with a mist of water. Then I used more juicy ink pads, and stamped the stamps in the ink and then I spritzed them again with water then I stamped them on the wet paper. I continued on and would wet the paper when it was getting dry. This method made the stamped flowers bleed and blend more than the second card.
