Banner Blast Birthday

IMG_1180

Today I made several cards for an order I am currently working on for my neighbor.  This card is for her granddaughter’s birthday.  I think it turned out super cute!!

First, I cut the raspberry card stock to fit the front of the card.  Then I added the white card stock to fit on top of the raspberry background.  I thought that a cupcake embossed background would make it fun and special for a young girl.  I set the card stock pieces aside and got to worked on the banners.

I wanted to use bright and fun colors so I picked Bermuda Bay, Melon Mango, Tempting Turquoise, and Daffodil Delight.  I stamped the banners on white card stock and cut them out.  Instead of using another bright color, I decided to go with something sparkly.  The silver glitter paper was the perfect fit.  I attached the banners to pink bakers twine using LOTS of mini Zots.  I had planned to tie tiny bows to put on the 4 edges of the banners, but the ends of the bows kept unraveling.  Instead I punched a tiny hole and inserted brads to cover the edges so it would not look unfinished.

The card was still lacking the “Happy Birthday” feel, so I made a birthday cake to go with it.  I filled in the second tier with yellow glitter and cut the cake out.  I stamped a tiny pin wheel, cut it out, and added a teeny tiny gem to the center.  To adhere them to the embossed background, I first used Scotch foam tape.  Since the foam tape is sticky, but not sticky enough to hold (forever) on to the embossed paper, I stuck a Zot to the foam tape to keep it in place.

Hope you like it.  Please feel free to use my idea.

Supplies Used:

Inks: Bermuda Bay, Mellon Mango, Daffodil Delight, and Tempting Turquoise.

Papers: Raspberry card stock (Creative Memories), silver glitter paper (Stampin’ Up).

The next card I made a few days after, but I decided to put them on the same post because they are almost identical.   This birthday card was made for college roommate, Megan.

Green and Gold Birthday

To make this card I did everything that I did above, except the cake.  I thought the cake would be too childish, so I added a few extra mats to the embossed background paper.  Instead of using baker’s twine to hold the banners, I used Scrapper’s Floss (which I have used on one of the cards in the My Valentine’s post).  Below are the 4 tiny bows that are made from scrapper’s floss.
